2017 Is Proving To Be A Big Year For Nashville International Airport

Our small-but-mighty Nashville International Airport has been getting significantly more mighty lately.
First, there was the the addition of non-stop service to London, via British Airways — news that frequent European vacationers and business travelers understandably celebrated, since it’s been three decades since we had a straight shot over the pond.
Those flights won’t kick off until May 2018, but seeing that option on the horizon is big, both for our travel options and for what it says about Nashville International Airport’s future growth.
On the latter note: This week, we also saw news that Virgin America was going to join the Nashville International Airport carrier lineup, adding direct service so San Francisco. That’ll be another big plus for business travelers in Nashville's growing tech sector, for sure. And it’s kicking off a lot sooner — next week, according to Nashville Business Journal. More points to BNA.
One of the great things about Nashville, even in the middle of our boom time: We still have an airport you can get to in under 30 minutes from most parts of town. At least at non-insane traffic times. (Former Northeasterners like me really grasp how valuable that is.)
If you travel a lot, being close to BNA still has its benefits — especially around airport-adjacent Donelson, which was named as one of “The 20 Hottest Residential Zip Codes In The U.S.” last year.
With the big, fun BNA happenings, I decided to focus this week’s Open Houses roundup on listings that’ll have you minutes from the security line (but far enough that jets shouldn’t be rumbling your living room).

close to Elm Hill Marina and the airport, the East Lake area is a worthwhile option for first-time buyers on a tight budget. It’s tough to find a property under $150,000 in decent shape, anywhere inside Nashville. While this 3-bed, 2-bath home could use a few updates, it looks like it’s in really nice shape — clean, cute and spacious for a starter home. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

Even with its continued rise, Donelson is still one of the best places close to town to find a well-kept mid-century brick ranch in a first-time buyer price range. This one, just shy of 1400 square feet and with 3 beds/2 baths, has a lot of updates and some original touches (like the refinished hardwoods and painted pine paneling). Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

We’re big on Glencoe Acres — right now, we’re in the final stages of a total home overhaul in that neighborhood, and we can’t wait to show the renovation off to you when it hits the market, very soon. Among the many benefits of living around there: It’s a super quick shot downtown, a quick shot to the airport and a quick shot to Brentwood too. This renovated midcentury ranch is a nice example of what’s happening there: cute older homes, getting new life. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

Looking for your own renovation project in the Woodbine area? Here’s one to eyeball: A 1935 property on a great street that needs a little love, but has potential, and some fun possibilities (like the unfinished space above the massive garage).
