4 Locally Owned Nashville Childrens Shops
by T.J. Anderson
I don't have kids, but I have a niece, a nephew, and a god daughter who all live in Nashville and who require gifts to make them smile on holidays. Because I like to shop local when I can and because shopping for kids is much more fun when you're not standing--overwhelmed and confused--in the aisle of a big-box store, I thought I'd put together this list of great locally owned baby and children's shops. I know I'm leaving some out; can you tell me which ones I've forgotten (or don't know about) in the comment section?
Tweed Baby Outfitters: The mecca for all the best baby things in Music City, this little shop in Edgehill Village owned by Maggie Jetter Tweedie is amazing, where every single thing is seriously awesome and awwww-inspiring. Plus, they provide free gift wrapping, which greatly simplifies gift-giving.
Fairytales Bookstore: This East Nashville children's bookstore is the place to go when you need a great, affordable gift for a child. They have more than just books by the way; there are plenty of toys and art supplies. The shop moved about a year ago to share a space with Pied Piper Creamery near 5 Points. Ice cream and toys. It's brilliant. This place, too, offers free gift wrapping.
Phillips Toy Mart: It's totally fair to call this toy store a Nashville institution. Located in Belle Meade, Phillips Toy Mart has been open for 65 years and looks exactly what you would imagine Santa's Workshop looks like. Packed floor to ceiling with toys and books, this toy store makes both adults and kids happy.
Etsy. Sure, it's a global marketplace, but I love that Etsy loot can be sorted to view merchants by city so that we can shop locally even when we're online. Some of the best children's goods for sale in Nashville are available on Etsy. A couple of great ones: InkWell Design Studio (which features custom invitations and nursery artwork) and Owlette (which makes bibs, bonnets, crayon rolls, skirts, play tails, pants and vests).
Which shops did I forget?
