The trend of celebrity chef-connected restaurants in Nashville is now years into its run. Since I wrote about it in 2014 — inspired by news of Nashville native-turned-celebrity Carla Hall bringing our food culture to New York at her own new place — we’ve seen a tumble of openings here, from bold food-scene names like John Besh and Richard Blais.

I’ve just about lost count of the famous faces launching kitchens in Nashville at this point, honestly, but Carla Hall happenings always catch my eye, since she’s one of ours, and she’s still making big waves in both the food and TV worlds.

(Not familiar? Quick version: She first came to national prominence as a fan-favorite competitor on Bravo’s Top Chef, and since, her big and bright personality and culinary know-how have led her to co-host duties on ABC show The Chew, alongside fellow celeb chefs Mario Batali and Michael Symon. More here.)

OK, so, first things first: No, Hall isn’t coming home to open a new restaurant. But she is coming home: On Saturday, July 22, Hall is headed to Green Door Gourmet in the far west side of town for an all-day homecoming celebration and dinner party, and we’re all invited.

Carla Hall Homecoming and Dinner on the Ground

The event — meant to be like a traditional Southern Sunday supper, just with some celeb-chef fanfare and the Nashville must-have of live music — will be held in the farm’s outsized and air-conditioned barn, running from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

On the menu: a bunch of Hall’s favorite soul-food recipes. She hasn’t outlined exactly what they’ll be yet, but if you check the menu at Hall’s New York restaurant, Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen, you’ll see lots of Nashville-celebrating bites, from “12 South” and “East Park Daily Special” chicken to "Cheekwood Gardens" salad with white BBQ dressing.

On the schedule: family-friendly, picnic-style dining and a performance from the Music City Dough Boys.

For Carla Hall superfans, there’s also the option of getting in on a VIP Meet and Greet, which includes a signed copy of one of Hall’s books. (She has two: Carla’s Comfort Food: Favorite Dishes from Around the World and Cooking with Love: Comfort Food That Hugs You.) Those VIP tickets run steeper than general dinner admission, at $95 per person, and you have to show up a little early, at 5 p.m.

For those who just want to dine, listen and party, regular ticket are $55 per person ($12 for children 5 to 12), and you can grab yours online now.

Head to the Green Door Gourmet website for more on the event, and the beautiful Nashville farm/grocery store/venue that's hosting.
