Dreaming Of A White House For Christmas In Middle Tennessee

There’s an outside chance we might get a white Christmas here in Nashville in 2017 — as this post was going up, the weather folks were saying there was a 50 percent probability of a few flurries on Christmas Eve, 53 percent on Christmas Day.

I won’t hold my breath, but I’m sure I’m not alone in being all for a little festive Christmas snow.

However the weather goes around the holiday, something that always gives me winter warmth: the crisp, clean, classic aesthetic of white exterior paint on a home.

I’ve been finding myself particularly drawn to dark colors this year (particularly all-black home exteriors), but I’ll never lose my love for stark simplicity. Almost every home looks beautiful in fresh white. When in doubt, it’s hard to go wrong there.

With that in mind, this week’s Open House roundup picks out some beautiful homes in the Nashville area, washed in white and open for visits over the weekend.

First, the broader options:

Then, some picks:

{mls: 1885091}

3407 Oldfield Dr

Nashville, TN 37214

$279,000

A lot of people are firmly against painting old brick, and I get it — it’s an almost irreversible choice, and it is a serious departure from the original. But if you’re renovating an older home that really needs freshening, whitewashing/painting the brick can make a huge difference, and still look appropriate and classic — this split level in the Donelson area is a good example. It still feels firmly ’60s, but fresh and clean, too. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

{mls: 1888046}

226 Antioch Pike

Nashville, TN 37211

$309,900

Impressive renovation of this 1935 home in the Glencliff area — it’s crisp and bright, with a nice share of wow-worthy design details, like french bedroom doors, glass knobs, exposed brick and beautiful wood siding in the screened porch area. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

{mls: 1884527}

5914 C Maxon Ave

Nashville, TN 37209

$379,900

This new home in Charlotte Park, nestled between deep blue and mid-gray homes, offers a perfect indication of how crisp white exterior paint pops. They took a similar approach inside — gleaming white, walls to cabinets to backsplash to countertops. Open Saturday, 1 to 3 p.m.

{mls: 1886972}

3433 Cortona Way

Murfreesboro, TN 37129

$389,900

Dynamic black/white palettes are still beyond popular, and this new Murfreesboro build is a good example of why: Setting off the crisp white brick and shakes with a black front/garage doors (and dark roofing) gives weight and presence, and feels of-the-moment and classic at the same time. Throughout, the home’s really light, bright and open — and for the money, it’s a ton of home (3103 square feet) with a lot of upscale details. Open Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.

{mls: 1887763}

926 Boscobel St

Nashville, TN 37206

$619,000

The curb appeal on this 1915 Victorian in East Nashville couldn’t be more perfect — crisp white with subtle gray accents, and a pop of sweet mint on the gorgeously detailed front door. Inside: a total, stylish and elegant renovation that does right by the home’s era. Open Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

{mls: 1886218}

3910 Abbott Martin Rd

Nashville, TN 37215

$1,099,900

There’s a lot of modern-farmhouse-chic happening in this new Green Hills build, from the warm wood island accents and range hood to the industrial-leaning light fixtures. And that interior plays nicely with the modern-Tudor architecture, which I think is smartly washed in white. Might feel a bit monolithic with a more bold color choice. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
