Househunting In The Neighborhood That Could Be Home To The First Light Rail Line In Nashville

With the rapid growth in Nashville, obviously we’ve all seen (and suffered through) a rapid growth in traffic, too. So most of us are looking with a lot of interest toward the city’s plans to expand and improve our public transportation options.


This week, we got major news on that front, as Mayor Megan Barry announced plans to work toward Nashville's first light-rail line, running up/down East Nashville’s main artery, Gallatin Pike.


"It already carries the most mass-transit riders in the region," Mayor Barry said of the East Nashville thoroughfare, in explaining that particular location choice. "Development along that corridor has demonstrated a market for the mixed-use, transit-oriented type of development that will be necessary to make light rail successful. Many of the neighborhoods that surround Gallatin Pike have extensive sidewalk networks. And the nMotion planning process showed those neighborhoods support comprehensive mass transit along the corridor."


It’ll be a long while before we’re riding the (light) rails in East Nashville, but if this comes to pass as planned, it could be a huge change for East Nashvillians, and for frequent East Nashville visitors who struggle with that busy neighborhood’s shrinking parking options.
