Murfreesboro Tennessee Among The Fastest Growing Suburbs In The Country

Over the past few years, it’s been just about impossible to ignore all the talk about Nashville’s rapidly rising cultural cachet. But in 2017, it might be Murfreesboro, Tennessee’s turn in the spotlight — I’ve been noticing chatter and plans and praise growing consistently, showing that the Rutherford County college town is poised for a boom.

A few pieces of fodder I wanted to share:

Realtor.com just shared a rundown of “The 10 U.S. Cities With the Fastest-Growing Suburbs,” and No. 9 on the list: Nashville, because of Murfreesboro, the 13th fastest-growing city in the U.S., according to U.S. Census figures. Part of the draw, that piece says, is significant homebuyer savings; the median home price in Northwest Murfreesboro is $295,000, while urban Nashville’s median is listed as $422,000.

— The Daily News Journal shared info late last month about plans to establish an arts and entertainment district in downtown Murfreesboro, a cool idea that’d give the Square and the area around it more of a “sense of destination.” This is just in the draft stage, but the aim is to develop a cultural arts trail and make the area more walkable and livable, with a stronger focus on the significant history downtown. Downtown Murfreesboro is already a really charming and fun historic area. With extra attention, I could see it being a major area draw.

— Just a fun thing that I think shows Middle Tennessee State University’s commitment to moving with the future, and serving both growing industries in Middle Tennessee and growing interests of students. WPLN reported in late 2016: “MTSU Launches Degree In Fermentation Science,” which means starting this fall, students will be able to pick a major that leads them toward working in everything from making fermented foods to becoming part of the growing craft beer scene in Nashville (or elsewhere). Of note in the piece: Tennessee “is home to 60 wineries, more than 50 breweries, 30 distilleries and 10 cheese-making companies.” The Boro's already got a significant cool quotient from the long-popular MTSU recording industry program, and this is another program that I figure co-eds won't complain about studying for.

Murfreesboro home listings at TJAndersonHomes.com

Our site pulls up-to-date MLS listings all across the city — you’ll get more accurate info (and more timely info) from our site than you will on the national real estate sites, so you’ll have fewer instances of getting your heart broken when you find out a listing is outdated, or missing out on a hot listing because it doesn’t show up fast enough. Searching TJAndersonHomes.com is a great place to start, but I can also give you more focused choices, if you give me a call and tell me about your must-have list.

A few quick examples — Realtor.com’s rundown singled out 37129 as the hottest specific zip code, so here are a couple of homes on the market there now:

{mls: 1800169}

5141 Cicada Cir

Murfreesboro, TN 37129

$230,000

Some insight into what it’ll take to get a fairly standard family home in Murfreesboro: 3 beds, 2 1/2 baths and just under 2,000 square feet, built in 2005 and all-around move-in-ready, with a fenced yard for kids/dogs (and a cute swingset already in place).

{mls: 1786639}

2809 Battleground Dr

Murfreesboro, TN 37129

$445,900

Looking a little larger and a little more high end? This one’s brand-new construction, with 4 beds, 3 baths and about 3500 square feet, with lots of upscale design touches, like a gourmet kitchen (with stylish barn doors) and a really luxurious master suite.
