Earlier this week, the city’s daily heaped praise on a neighborhood that might surprise the longtime Nashvillians who haven’t had their minds trained on emerging Middle Tennessee neighborhoods. In a story headlined "'Hip' Donelson' among Nashville's most desirable suburbs,”The Tennessean noted the rise of the family-friendly corner of Middle Tennessee.

Donelson has become so popular that home buyers, many of them young families…, are engaging in bidding wars when houses come on the market,” the story says.

I’ve been talking up Donelson for a minute now — it might’ve been somewhat overlooked in the past, but more and more home buyers are definitely recognizing its charm lately.

Why the growing Donelson love? Well, the area has a lot to offer, from the old (lots of cute mid-century ranches that appeal to fans of Mad Men-era style) to the new (the growing Hip Donelson Farmers Market, one of Nashville’s best places to grab farm-fresh food during the warmer months). There’s also the easy access to the Interstates, the proximity to Opry Mills mall and the Grand Ole Opry House, and the benefits for water lovers, with fishing/boating/etc. on Percy Priest Lake from Elm Hill Marina (which also has a cool floating patio/deck restaurant called Shipwreck Cove).

If you’ve been thinking about Donelson, I’d love to show you around — drop me a line and let me know what you’re looking for

Given all that, I decided to focus this week’s Open Houses spotlight on the 37214 area code, and share a couple of homes worth checking out this weekend. First, your full rundown of Open House options:

If the lakeside fun I mentioned is big on your list, this 5-bed, 3 1/2-bath home is worth taking a look at — you’re walking distance from the lake and close to the marina. The property backs up to woods, too, so privacy hunters are well-served too. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.

The soaring ceiling in the entryway of this 3-bed, 2 1/2-bath brick home is a beautiful hello, and there’s lots more to like, too, from the bright and sunny living room and kitchen to the covered porch overlooking a charming, woodsy property. Extra bonus: a boat garage, and close proximity to the lake so you can use it regularly. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
