Weekend Open Houses For Buyers Ready For A Renovation
by TJ Anderson
Deep in the middle of (and making great progress on) renovations at my own place, I’m feeling fired up about the beauty in untapped potential. A fixer-upper (or even an update-ready home) isn’t for everyone, but if you have the energy, stomach (and, well, savings padding) for it, there’s no better way to get a dream home tailored to your needs and taste, but still stocked with its own stories.
I love a turnkey home too, of course. But if you’re like me, and seeing a diamond in the rough that’s brimming with potential or a nice-enough home that could be a showstopper gets your brain firing… well, we have lots to talk about.
For this week’s Open Houses roundup, I picked out some properties that I think are the picture of possibility — a little vision, a little elbow grease, and you have something to brag about, bigtime.
First, a broader Middle Tennessee Open House picture:
And then, some properties with big potential, open this weekend:
2409 Inga St.
Nashville, TN 37206
Finding a home under $200K in the 37206 area code isn’t the easiest task these days, particularly if you want something move-in ready. This one’s thoroughly cute and bearing lots of original 1940s features — fireplace, beautiful unpainted woodwork. You could move right in and be quite comfortable. But some choice upgrades — like a kitchen refresh and some new, cool lighting — and it could be an East Nashville stunner. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
3508 Geneva Cir
Nashville, TN 37209
I’m totally salivating over this 1967 property in College Hill — 3,000 square feet with so many cool mid-century design touches and gorgeous terrace views (and a pretty wild time-capsule of a home bar). With some smart and tasteful updates and a few upgrades, this one could be breathtaking. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
106 Benson Rd.
Nashville, TN 37214
Look past the clutter in this 1930 pine cabin in Donelson, and picture it opened and brightened. Then picture having coffee while looking at that Stones River view from your two acres. This home has potential, for sure, but the property — just wow. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
4706 Hazelwood Cir
Nashville, TN 37220
This large Oak Hill-area home is in great shape, and its mid-century ranch touchstones are on point (those living room windows are textbook-perfect). In a location this great with this much space, you could definitely get away with exploring some upscale visions here — upgrading in the bathrooms and kitchen, fresh flooring in a few areas. This is one of those great properties that doesn’t need anything right away, but has the potential to become a mid-century vision for someone who wants to take it further. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
Any of these potential-filled homes catching your eye? Looking for a project somewhere else, or a home that keeps your hands completely out of the toolbox? Let me know what your must-have list looks like, I’d love to help you!
