Open Houses That Go Big With Style And Personality
by TJ Anderson
There’s a lot of new construction happening in Nashville now, as our city experiences unprecedented growth and builders and developers strive to create places to put all the newcomers. For perspective, this piece notes that “it takes an entire year for Chicago to grow as much as Nashville does in one day.” Take a second and take that in.
The most common complaint with new construction, at least in the past, was that the new builds lacked personality — beige boxes with vinyl siding as far as the eye could see. But however you feel about Nashville’s growth, one thing that I think is worth noting and internalizing: People right now are building some really exciting, interesting and personality-filled new homes in our city and our area.
Not sure if you believe me? I’ll take this week’s Open Houses roundup to spotlight some new homes that I think have a lot to offer when it comes to style and design, inside and out.
First, here’s the broader picture of the weekend’s Open Houses in the area:
And then some new homes that I think offer something extra special on the design front, open this weekend.
1145 B Cahal Ave.
Nashville, TN 37206
The Paragon Group is one of the best examples of dynamic, creative and quality-focused new home building in Nashville — in addition to these two gorgeous modern homes in Salemtown that just came on the market, they also have really fantastic attached properties in East Nashville that blend in really with with their historic neighborhood, while offering modern convenience and energy efficiency. I think my favorite touch here is the open living area, with its built-ins, coffered ceiling and wall of windows, but the awesome shiplap detail in the dining area gets me too. Both 1145 A and B are open this Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
1626 B Northview Ave.
Nashville, TN 37216
East Nashville by and large is the place where you can get really creative, and Echo Construction’s definitely done so here — these attached homes ride the line between sleek modernity and having the vibe of an old chapel. Take a look inside — the beams are really cool. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
Nashville, TN 37209
Here’s a great example of new construction mimicking classic architecture in a beautiful way. The wrap-around porch on this new Sylvan Park home feels quintessentially Southern, and all-around beautiful. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
2209 Castleman Dr.
Nashville, TN 37215
Front-facing garages can turn off certain style-first buyers, but I think this Green Hills home offers an example of including that really deftly — your garage doors are still a major part of your front facade, but it doesn’t look remotely like an afterthought, but an intentional part of the design. The cool brick inlay and large picture window do a lot to anchor the home’s exterior beautifully, too. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
119 B 30th Ave. S.
Nashville, TN 37212
This home — one of several from the same builder in the Vanderbilt / West End area — shot for a clean, industrial-style design with slick urban aesthetics and amenities. The roof deck here is what really drives it home. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
4013 Vailwood Dr.
Nashville, TN 37215
In Green Hills, Vintage South development has something of a different twist on Tudor Revival inspiration — check out the different style windows flanking the front door, adding extra interest to the exterior. Inside, there’s lots to catch your eye, too, from floor-to-ceiling wainscoting detail in the dining room to so many statement chandeliers — you have cooler lighting in this home’s laundry room than you do in most great rooms. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
Whether you’re intrigued by new builds or totally determined to find a home with history, I’d love to help — if you’re looking for a new home in Middle Tennessee, reach out and tell me about what’s on your must-have list!
