Nashville Area Open Houses That Lean Green For Saint Patricks Day Weekend

It’s Friday, March 17, 2017 — St. Patrick’s Day — and I’m looking at this weekend’s Open House listings in the Nashville area to see what I should point you toward. Seems pretty obvious: green homes.

I’ll go a little less literal, though. With Nashville’s current development boom, a lot of builders have put a premium on adding eco-friendly touches, some going so far as to seek LEED certification (that stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and the certification means a building is resource efficient, limiting water and energy use — and usually saving its owners money in the process).

That kind of approach is a welcome one in a city growing as swiftly as Nashville is, and I know a lot of home buyers really value it — clients regularly request to see green-minded homes as we’re tracking down properties that fit their wish lists.

So, my Open Houses roundup for St. Patrick’s Day weekend is going to feature a few homes that, even if they’re not LEED-certified, offer some valuable eco-minded perks.

First, the bigger picture:

Then, my “green”-leaning picks:

2613 A Airpark Drive

Nashville, TN 37206

If you want a fair share of literal green in your life, too, the part of East Nashville over by Cornelia Fort Airpark is wonderfully leafy — with this new home on Airpark Drive, you’re a quick stumble from the park, and flanked by mature trees. The forest-y view from the balcony... wow. On the figuratively green side: low-flow plumbing fixtures, Energy Star appliances, low-VOC paints and more. Open Saturday and Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.

803 Lancaster Way

Nashville, TN 37212

This location’s tough to beat in Nashville — The Chesterfield cottage community is a quick jump from Vanderbilt, Hillsboro Village, 12 South, Green Hills and on and on, giving you easy access to tons of dining, shopping and more. The Charleston-style, double-porch design has great curb appeal, and inside: open layout, upscale finishes, farmhouse sink… plus it’s an Energy Star-certified home, with energy-efficient windows and other green touches. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

1146 Eckerton Drive #109

Nolensville, TN 37135

If you’re looking to get into Williamson County, but struggle to fit your large family into Franklin/Brentwood budgets, I’d encourage you to explore Nolensville some. It’s a charming area, Williamson County schools and all, but you’ll find the asking prices to be more approachable. Like this huge luxury home in the Summerlyn development — brand new, more than 3600 square feet, listed at under $160 a square foot. It’s high-end throughout — with Energy Star appliances, sealed ducting and other energy-friendly details — and for a newer subdivision, offers a healthy plot of property. Open Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday noon to 6 p.m.

123 37Th Ave N

Nashville, TN 37209

In much-desired Sylvan Park, this new construction has some solid aesthetic perks — points for the sputnik light fixture and dining-room shiplap — plus a few good green perks too: a tankless water heater, Energy Star windows and more. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
