WalletHub just dropped a new list of “2017’s Best Small Cities in America,” comparing 1200 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000, and weighing out “key indicators of livability,” from housing costs to school systems to abundance of places to eat.

Topping said list: Princeton, New Jersey, with a 99th percentile rank. Also with a 99th percentile rank: Brentwood, Tennessee. The Middle Tennessee town landed fifth on the list of 1200 — not too bad, and definitely deserved.

You can run through the whole list at, and see how Brentwood ranked on things like economic health and quality of life.

In case that gets your homebuyer wheels spinning toward Brentwood, I focused this week’s Open House roundup on that picturesque enclave south of Nashville.

First, your broader options:

Then, some Brentwood picks:

213 Glenstone Cir , #213

Brentwood, TN 37027

A move-in-ready home with a Brentwood address under $300K can be a much easier order on the Davidson County side of Brentwood — case in point, this beautiful three-level townhome that’s super stylish and really spacious, with almost 2100 square feet, just under that budget. Open Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.

9024 Ford Dr

Brentwood, TN 37027

Lots of modern-farmhouse charm in this updated ‘70s home, including cool sliding barn doors and a fantastic apron sink in the brightly renovated kitchen. The outdoor space, though, is the clincher — if you have kids, their paradise awaits in a huge fenced yard (playhouse already in place). Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

2010 Sunny Side Dr

Brentwood, TN 37027

A prime example of those big, leafy plots of land you can find in some of the older Brentwood neighborhoods, this 4-bed, 3-bath home sits on 1.22 acres, offering park-life privacy and fantastic outdoor entertaining space. Inside’s thoroughly renovated too, with granite, custom tile and more. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

8222 Glover Dr

Brentwood, TN 37027

With winter coming, you might not be thinking much about pools right now, but come next summer, this Parkside property will definitely look like paradise — that pool/outdoor kitchen/fireplace sure are special. Inside, lots of custom details, like wood and stone feature walls. Open Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.

6415 Johnson Chapel Cir. Lot 1

Brentwood, TN 37027

Absolutely stunning new construction on an acre of property in Williamson County, this one’s light, bright and elegant throughout its 6700-plus square feet. Particular wow factor comes with the massive bonus room (with wet bar), chef-worthy kitchen and two-story living space with custom fireplace surround climbing all the way up. Open Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
