First Nashville Design Week Event Coming In November 2018
by TJ Anderson
Home design is my particular passion, but I’m inspired by all kinds of visual art forms, from mural-making to graphic design. And in a creatively focused city like Nashville, obviously we have a lot of individual talent to be inspired by.
If you’d like to be more aware of and informed about the design talent in Nashville, there’s a perfect opportunity coming up: the first Nashville Design Week, running Nov. 8-15, 2018 at locations throughout the city.
The overall concept: “a week-long, city-wide series of interdisciplinary programs and events to unite the design community, promote collaboration and idea sharing, engage the public, and elevate the impact of Nashville’s design economy.”
What you can see and learn about during Nashville Design Week
Over the course of the week, you’ll have opportunities to learn about and from a slew of Nashville design talents, from across disciplines, media and styles.
A few of the Nashville Design Week events that caught my attention:
— A chance to learn about how interior design impacts our lives, led by the Interior Design Department at Watkins College of Art and the Tennessee Chapter of American Society of Interior Designers
— A talk about “curating a soulful home” with Nashville interior designer Marcelle Guilbeau
— A panel focused on designing inspiring spaces for work-from-home lifestyles, led by Nashville Interiors magazine
— A talk about interiors, design and photography at Design Within Reach’s new Nashville studio
— An open design studio crawl through East Nashville
— A downtown Nashville parks and art tour
— And an opportunity to tour Off the Wall, Nashville's first urban contemporary art gallery on Charlotte Avenue, and learn about 14 different artists whose murals cover that long stretch of concrete
If you’re not as obsessed with home design as I am, there’s plenty at Nashville Design Week that focuses elsewhere, from fine art to branding. Explore the full Nashville Design Week calendar at nashvilledesignweek.org.
You can register for individual events through the calendar page, and almost everything is free.
A slew of Nashville and national companies and organizations pitched in to make this week happen — from local architects to tile giants daltile (whose stone and ceramic creations have made their way into many of our new Nashville home builds and renovation projects).
And even if design isn’t part of your professional life, this is set up to offer learning experiences for just about anyone who appreciates beauty, from art buffs to budding entrepreneurs to Nashville homeowners and renters with spaces that need freshening.
And if Nashville Design Week inspires you to reinvent your home setting — say, buying and/or selling a house in Nashville — please reach out and let us know if we can help!
