Game of Thrones fans had an extra reason to get unreasonably pumped this week, aside of the forthcoming (and extra-long) season finale: At long last, one of the biggest and best fantasy shows on television is getting its own worldwide convention.

What’s better, from where the Thrones fanatics on our team stand: That convention — fittingly called Con of Thrones — will be right here in Nashville.

It’s gonna be a while before we can put on our best Lord Commander furry shoulder garb and wander among our people — the con, planned by hugely popular fansite Watchers on the Wall, is scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 2, 2017. In the works: panels, workshops, Q&A sessions and opportunities to get autographs from members of the cast.

“This convention is led by die-hard fans of the series, no detail will go unnoticed,” the Watchers on the Wall announcement says. “The time is right to celebrate this phenomenon with people and new friends who love it most.”

It’ll be a while before all the specifics come out, too, but while you’re waiting, we imagine you might be having a few of the thoughts we’re having. Or, one particular thought: “Why Nashville?”

Zero complaints, of course, but a massive medieval fantasy filmed in Ireland and Croatia and Iceland and Spain doesn’t immediately scream “Nashville.” Maybe there’s a secret Watchers on the Wall reason we missed, or there are purely practical concerns (Nashville’s proximity to many major cities, our solid events infrastructure). But our team prefers to think there are more fantastical reasons.

So, here are the reasons we came up with for why the first major Game of Thrones con is headquartering right here in Music City.

10 reasons we think the Game of Thrones con is coming to Nashville

1. We’re not only welcoming to dragons — we’ve given them their own park.

2. Although it’s not made of ice and it’s a few feet shy of 700 feet tall, Nashville does have a really impressive wall.

3. Perhaps not as many as Westeros, but the Nashville area does have a fair share of castles — like The Castle recording studio in Franklin, Castle Gwynn in Arrington, the Spring Castle in Rock Island State Park…

4. A very impressive Raven, focused on making sure your messages are received and heard, is based in Nashville.

5. Tyrion would be relieved to find that Middle Tennessee has a growing wine-making scene

6. We don’t have an Iron Throne, but we do have an Iron Fork, and winning it is almost as prized.

7. The Tyrells would be glad to find that we have our very own High Garden (it's in East Nashville).

8. Fierce Wolves live here.

9. We’ve already proved we can survive The Walking Dead’s walkers, so who’s afraid of a few White Walkers?

10. Sure, winter comes to Nashville, but even at our worst, the Night’s King would probably feel a little sweaty.

Suggestions to add? We’re all eyes.
