I blogged a few months ago about the Nashville Food Project, their new home in The Nations and the work they do year-round to help feed hungry neighbors here in Nashville.

I really admire what the nonprofit does, and this holiday season, I have another reason to feel inspired by their commitment to our community, and another group of folks to be inspired by: On Nov. 19, Nashville Food Project is teaming up with the folks behind Gratefull: Nashville to produce a community Thanksgiving potluck that’s free and open to everyone.

Gratefull Nashville: Where, when, why and how

On Thanksgiving Day, most of us will spend some quality time with family/friends. That Monday, Gratefull gives us a chance to get in some quality time with neighbors we do and don’t know, too, via al-fresco lunch at one long table together.

The 2018 Gratefull: Nashville potluck goes down outside at the corner of Fatherland Street and Seventh Street in East Nashville, right across from Sky Blue Cafe, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local restaurants will be providing food, and there’s no cost, and no particular agenda, outside of neighbors getting together to share a meal.

If you’d like to volunteer or contribute a dish, you can sign up online. Otherwise, show up, meet up and enjoy.

Nashville’s traditionally tight-knit — something that was particularly clear in the wake of the 2010 flood. But it feels like 2018 is a good year to get back in touch with that laudable part of our city’s personality: knowing and supporting our neighbors.
