From time to time, I can subscribe to the “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing” axiom. And apparently, so does the new Legendairy Milkshake Bar, opening in June at 171 3rd Ave. N., in downtown Nashville.

The business bills itself as “a new culinary adventure,” and while, ostensibly, it’s a 4000-square-foot space specifically focused on the tried-and-true milkshake, the menu details rolling out — and the photos — definitely seem adventurous.

There’s a Death by Chocolate Shake, with dutch chocolate and Rocky Road ice cream and chocolate chips and fudge and an entire decadent fudge brownie plunked on top. (See above.)

There’s a Salty Caramel “Cheeseshake,” with sea salt caramel and buttered pecan ice cream, mixed into a jar dipped in chocolate icing and crushed potato chips, then topped with crushed peanuts and caramel and an entire slice of New York cheesecake. (See below.)

These are definitely not threatening to be like your average milkshakes.

The Legendairy Milkshake Bar is also offering opportunities for you to invent your own over-the-top concoctions, with create-your-own shakes and scooped ice cream options, in bowls or homemade cones.

The exact opening day for the downtown Nashville location hasn’t been announced yet, but once the doors open, you’ll be able to overdo it Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Keep up with the latest news on the Legendairy Milkshake Bar’s Instagram feed (and if you haven’t already, maybe follow TJ Anderson Homes there while you’re at it).

Already offering over-the-top ice cream treats in East Nashville

We must be in the season of over-the-top ice cream treats, since, just ahead of The Legendairy Milkshake Bar’s debut, East Nashville welcomed the first brick-and-mortar spot from Frisson Soft Serve, a fellow supplier of Nashville sweets that’s inclined to go big.

They just held their grand opening in mid-May at 1100 Fatherland St., #102, serving specialty gelato-based cones that sure don’t skimp on toppings.

Frisson’s Campfire cone is overflowing with graham cracker dirt and mini marshmallows. Their NashVegas cones are as weird and colorful as our city, topped with big tufts of cotton candy and cotton candy crunchies and rainbow sprinkles. Check out the full Frisson menu at frissonsoftserve.com.

Like their similarly indulgent downtown neighbors, Frisson is open Tuesday to Sunday (their hours are noon to 9 p.m.), but on other days/times and in other parts of town, you might get lucky and catch their Frisson ice cream truck, parked at festivals and events throughout Nashville. (Check out the Frisson Soft Serve truck’s schedule here.)

If you have a sweet tooth-y summer visitor in town whose mind you’d like to blow, or if you’re just in the mood to spoil yourself into a sugar coma, either of these spots should do nicely.

Shopping for sugar isn’t my only specialty: If you’re about to start looking for a new home in Nashville, I can surely help there, too. Check out some homes on the market in Nashville now, and call or email TJ Anderson Homes to get your househunting process going.
