Lockeland Table: East Nashville's Newest and Best
I had the opportunity to enjoy East Nashville's newest culinary treasure last night, The Lockeland Table. Located at the corner of Woodland St. and N. 16th St., this place has undergone a total transformation. Once an original H.G. Hill Market, it is now my new place for fine dining in Nashville.
I've been fortunate to see the build out on my daily walks and drives past the restaurant. So much creative thought and curb appeal has gone into the old building. A new facade welcomes diners in, and the food and atmosphere will have you staying for one more of their unique cocktails.
We were seated immediately with our 6:45 reservation, and the place was about halfway full. By the time our appetizers came, the entire place was buzzing with life and people eager to try the neighborhoods newest treat! Our server was very knowledgeable and gracious. She offered up great suggestions, and confirmed my pre-visit menu stalking at Lockeland Tables website. For appetizers, we went with the hot coal roasted heirloom carrot and beet salad, as well as the Cox Farms roasted bone marrow. Both were terrific, and had me wanting to order the clams casino pizza for a third app, but I abstained...to save room for the donuts, but we'll get to them...oh those donuts.
For our entrees we ordered the Carolina Mountain Trout and the bone-in Pork Loin. IF you think you have had collared greens and mac and cheese, you were mistaken. You haven't had a true mac and cheese until you taste these Tennessee, smoked cheddar ones. Ridiculously decadent, but hey, you only live once. I thought we had found the best thing on the menu, until we made our best choice of the night.
Forget everything you know about a donut and start over. Take the best parts of a beignet and a Italian Zepoli, mix in some ricotta and jelly filling, serve hot, with copious powered sugar. Now, put them in a bag and shake the goodness. These were hands down, THE BEST things I have ever eaten.
I'm confident donut sales were at their highest, as on my way out, I ran into several groups of friends, expounding on the virtues of those bits of fried goodness.
Basically, run to Lockeland Table. Go a lot. Take your friends. Take Nashville Visitors. Enjoy our newest, most awesome addition to the neighborhood. But please, save some donuts for the rest of us...If you can.
