The Nashville Gulch SoBro Pedestrian Bridge Moves One Stop Closer To Reality

It’s been a few years now since legislation was introduced to create a Gulch-SoBro Pedestrian Bridge, giving Nashvillians/visitors on foot or on a bike easy access to bounce between two of the city’s busiest areas.
If it moves forward, the bridge would create a more walkable Nashville, and add an interesting new twist to the Nashville skyline, with — as the proposed plan goes — a 700-foot bridge in a sweeping, S-shaped curve, with a 200-foot-tall concrete tower supporting the span, plus terraced seating and landscaping meant to give the bridge a park-like aesthetic. Mixed in with the near-constant influx of new buildings, it’s an exciting addition to think about.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been wondering where we stand on the Gulch-SoBro Pedestrian Bridge. I was glad to read this week that we’ve moved one step closer to it becoming a reality.
Monday, Metro announced an agreement with the MTA and Cummins Station, LLC to purchase property at 1011 Demonbreun Street, which’d eventually be home to part of the bridge and its plaza. Assuming the Federal Transit Administration approves the plan, we’re inching ever closer toward reality. Baby steps, but steps.
Many (if not most) of us have complex feelings about Nashville’s rapid growth, but it feels like projects like this can bring about positive changes for tourism and day-to-day resident life — another excuse/encouragement to be active, and keep ourselves out of car traffic — is a good thing, right?

Cozier high-rise condos are more of what you’ll see in The Gulch, so this new-build property — tucked right beside the center of The Gulch, with 3 beds, 3 1/2 baths and nearly 2500 square feet — is a different twist. Although you’re not in a high-rise, you still get some fantastic views from the 800-square-foot roof terrace. And the finishes are stylish and upscale throughout. Definitely something to consider if you’re drawn to Gulch life, but need a little more space to stretch out.
