Weekend Open Houses In Praise Of A Perfect Porch
by TJ Anderson
As I’m writing this, if you look outside, the Nashville sky is the most perfect shade of cloudless blue imaginable, and I’m debating whether to bother with a jacket. Sure, a handful of days ago we all had our snow pants on (and to be fair, we might need to break them out again), but let’s focus forward.
Earlier this week, famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring, and who am I to argue with that sound science? So I’m setting my sights on enjoying more sun and more T-shirt weather on my porch.
Sound pretty OK to you, except for being short a perfect porch? I’m glad to help. This week’s Open Houses roundup is focused on homes on the market now that have perfect places for sitting, sipping and staring off into the sunset (or sunrise, depending on how you’re oriented).
First, the broader picture:
And then, my porch picks:
2191 Hartland Rd.
Franklin, TN 37069
I’m in the middle of building a beautiful modern farmhouse-style home in Woodbine, so this one hits my sweet spot — classic charm and a rockingchair porch that’s impossible to resist, out in Franklin. Click through to the back, too — the covered porch with built-in fireplace takes care of outdoor entertaining in the cooler months. And bonus: lots of fantastic shiplap! Open Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
1367 Eliot Rd.
Franklin, TN 37064
Westhaven by and large keeps an aesthetic that’s classic Southern, including lots of homes with double front porches, a look I really love. This one has fantastic porches and a gorgeous garden, too. Open Saturday 2 to 4 p.m.
6011 A California Ave.
Nashville, TN 37209
A lot of new construction in rapidly growing The Nations brings in the classic Southern stacked porch too, and I think it looks great — an urban neighborhood with modern growth that retains classic touches. This new construction is just under 2200 square feet, with 3 beds and 3 1/2 baths, and it’s open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
910 Morrison St.
Nashville, TN 37208
The neighborhoods around Germantown are earning lots of love (we have some gorgeous featured listings in Salemtown that are steps from Germantown’s restaurants/shops/fun). Hope Gardens is one of the love beneficiaries, and this new construction fits in nicely with the historic homes around there — particularly in this classic, super cozy porch. Open Saturday 2 to 4 p.m.
334 Wandering Cir.
Franklin, TN 37067
Between the prominent stairway leading up to the front of this Franklin home and the prominent columns on these stacked, covered porches, you’ve got loads of elegance as soon as you walk up. Open Sunday 1 to 3 p.m.
541 Natchez Bend Rd.
Nashville, TN 37221
I’m breaking my rule a bit, since this is a deck, but let’s get a little loose, because: Wow. Out in Natchez Hills, overlooking spectacular valley views, this one’s a totally renovated (and totally private and spacious) 1977 home. Another stretching of my rule: This one's open NEXT Sunday, Feb. 14.
Picturing yourself on any of these porches? Have something else in mind? I’d love to help you track down the home of your dreams — give me a call or drop me an email, and tell me about what you’re looking for.
