When it comes to homes, we all have different design preferences, but one of the things I personally love: a mix of old and new. Maybe new construction with a reclaimed shiplap statement wall; maybe an older home with sleek new light fixtures. I like how the aesthetics play together.

So with that in mind, this week’s Open Houses roundup is going to focus on homes that embody that mix — a marriage of old and new, all around Nashville and the surrounding area.

First, the broader Open House picture for the weekend:

And then, my old-new/new-old picks.

It’s a tricky endeavor, updating a historic East Nashville home in a way that complements its timeless style. In this 1910 home in Lockeland Springs, most of the updates are tightly period-appropriate, which looks great. But I like how they gave the master an upscale spa appeal — gorgeous freestanding tub, frameless shower doors and sleek tile. It gives the home an up-to-date, luxurious feel, but the classic shapes and colors play nice with the rest of the home. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.

Over in Inglewood, this 1930 Craftsman got a total overhaul — the interior is fresh, new, modern and clean. But the aesthetic appeal remains — from the big beams on the front porch to the stone fireplace, the home keeps to its Craftsman roots. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.

Fans of mid-century ranch homes tend to also be fans of Crieve Hall, which has one of Nashville’s best collections of them. I love how they brought some tasteful updates to this 1956 rancher — nice stone countertops in the kitchen, stainless appliances — but kept some of the ranch touchstones, leaving the wood paneling in the dining area and giving it a fresh, light coat of paint. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.

311 Mosley Drive

Brentwood, TN 37027

The updated, open kitchen and upscale master bath in this mid-century Brentwood home look great, but I’m so glad to see the front porch — from the front doors to the light fixtures to the ornate block, it’s time capsule-y in such a great way. Open Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.

Charmed by any of these? Or looking for something that marks off some different must-haves? Let me know if I can help!
